Welcome to Houston, Alaska
"Where the real Alaska begin.."
We would like to take this moment and welcome you to Houston, Alaska, one of Alaska's greatest places to live and play. Why is Houston "ALASKA'S" greatest place to live and play? We're glad you asked, let us tell you!
Houston is a bedroom community just ten minutes northwest of Wasilla and a short commute to Anchorage. We still have affordable land and housing for a family to get a start in life without having to mortgage the kids to own a home, but still having all the comforts of a city.
Check out our schools. Stop in and chat with the administrators and find out why you want to live and raise your family here in Houston.
Recreation activity is unsurpassed; you cannot go five minutes from your home without finding world class lake or river fishing. Catching Rainbow Trout or land locked Silver's in the multitude of lakes, Silvers and King salmon (all five species of salmon) trout, Dolly Varden and Char in the little Susitna River. Boating and river rafting all summer long. The Little Su campground near city hall is second to none is available to the traveler wishing to stay the night or a few days.
Historical hiking trails we are famous for, paved bike paths and horseback riding, plus trails and roads for ATV's. (Check with Houston Police for designated ATV roads).
Winter recreation: WOW… what can we say! Miles and miles of fabulous snow machine riding, from lakes to trails to high marking… step out into your back yard and away you go. After a great time of riding stop in at the Houston Lodge or Goldminers Lodge, have a meal and good time warming up.
Is ice fishing is your bag… You bet we have ice fishing. How about cross country skiing or dog sledding, "Outstanding!" Not to mention Hatcher Pass is just a short jaunt away for downhill skiing sledding and snowboarding. The list goes on and on…
The quality of life in Houston is what Alaska's is all about. As someone once told us, "not only is Houston where the real Alaska begins, but it is also Alaska's best kept secret".
See you soon…
